GENEVA, Ill. – The Trine University women's hockey team gave up four goals in the first and were never able to recover, falling 6-0 against their hosts from Aurora University.
The Spartans found the back of the net twice in the first five minutes of play and then twice more before the end of the first period to take a commanding 4-0 lead into the first intermission. They added a goal in each the second and third periods to secure the victory.
The Thunder recorded 18 shots in the game with senior Grace Canty leading the way with four. Five other skaters would tie for second on the team with two each.
In net, freshman Casey Frank turned in another strong performance despite the loss. She finished with 58 saves, for a weekend total of 120.
The team falls to 8-10 overall and 4-6 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play following the loss. They will return home for their next competition when they host St. Norbert College for a weekend doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, February 3.
