ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's hockey team picked up their first win of the season with an overtime victory against visiting Concordia University Wisconsin. Senior Eryn Isaacson (Fenton, Mich.) came up with the game-winning goal to take the game 2-1.
The contest started slowly for both teams as they entered the final minutes of the second period scoreless.
That changed when senior Jade Pandres (Eagle River, Alaska) fired a shot from the point which was turned aside by the opposition's netminder. Classmate Emily Moore (London, Ont.) collected the rebound and passed the puck back inside where sophomore Grace Canty (West Bloomfield, Mich.) was waiting. The goal was Canty's first of the season and gave the Thunder the 1-0 lead.
The Falcons responded in the opening minute of the third period to draw even again at 1-1. Their goal also came from just outside the crease.
The tie would hold through the rest of the third stanza and the game would head to a three-on-three overtime period.
The final stanza saw just two shots, which would bookend the winning goal for the Thunder. The first shot came for Concordia who skated behind the Trine defense and fired a strong attempt on goal. Freshman Abbie Bost (Chelsea, Mich.) came up with the save, her 29th of the game. Moore collected the rebound and poked it forward toward the blueline. Isaacson collected it and went the length of the ice before skating around two defenders to force the puck past the goalie.
The Thunder improve to 1-3 following the win. The game concludes the fall portion of the season.
