ADRIAN, Mich. -- At the MIAA Cross Country Jamboree, the Trine University men's and women's teams both finished seventh. The men totaled 166 points while the women had 205 points.
Hosted by Adrian College, Calvin College took the men's title with 38 points. Trine tied with Olivet, but the Comets won the tie-breaker as their sixth runner finished one spot head of Trine's.
The Thunder were led by a trio of freshman including MIAA Runner of the Week, freshman Austin Ganger (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) who placed 20th in a time of 27:41. Adam Schaaf (Greentown, Ind./Eastern) took 38th place with a time of 28:30 while Aaron Mast (Ligonier, Ind./West Noble) took 69th in a time of 29:38. Senior Michael Hammond (Columbia City, Ind./Bellmont) and freshman Garrett Benedict (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield Central) rounded out Trine's scoring as they finished back-to-back in 70th and 71st places with times of 29:45 and 29:48 respectively.
On the women's side, Calvin took the title with a near perfect score of 19 points.
Leading the way for Trine was sophomore Ariel McCoy (Garrett, Ind./Garrett) who completed the 6K course in a time of 25:05 to finish 42nd. Freshman Kelsey Ortiz (Swanton, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) finished in 61st place, coming across the finish line in a time of 26:14. Sophomore Courtney Forsythe (West Mansfield, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) was 75th overall with a time of 27:10. A pair of freshman rounded out the team scoring for the Thunder as Cynthia Yoder (Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw Community) took 95th in a time of 28:29 while Holly Wolfe (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) finished with a time of 28:57 to place 99th.
Trine will next race on Oct. 4 when they travel to Lansing Community College for the Lansing Invitational beginning at 1:30 p.m.
