ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine men's basketball team cruised to a 78-52 victory over Great Lakes Christian in non-conference action Saturday afternoon in Hershey Hall.
Fourteen players saw action and 10 different players scored in the victory. Jared Holmquist (Reed City, Mich./Reed City) notched his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 16 points and pulling down a season-high 14 rebounds. He also dished out a season-high four assists and came away with three steals. Anthony Kiminski paced the Lakes with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Trine improved to 6-1 overall for the first time since 2010-11. The Thunder have now won three-straight. All of Trine's wins have come by double-digits. Great Lakes Christian fell to 0-21 on the year.
Tarvis Malone (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) and Will Dixon (Indianapolis, Ind./Zionsville) also reached double-figures for Trine as each player scored 14 points. Malone knocked down 4-of-7 three-point attempts, while Dixon added four assists.
The Thunder bench contributed 21 points, paced by Jordan Kreglow (Gibsonburg, Ohio/Gibsonburg) and Austin Woolett (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) with six-apiece. Kreglow's effort marked a new career-high for the freshman. Jared Dishop (Napolean, Ohio/Liberty Center) added the first three points of his Trine career.
The Thunder outscored Great Lakes Christian 25-0 on the fast break. The effort marked the most points Trine has scored in transition in a game this year. The Thunder scored 36 points off 24 Great Lakes Christian turnovers and shot 47.1 percent (33-of-70) from the field.
Ezra Beckwith scored 12 points for the Lakes, while David Parks added 11 points. Great Lakes Christian shot 34.6 percent (18-of-52) from the field.
GLCC kept the game tight in the early going, leading as late as the 12:27 mark of the first half after a Nathan Shelton bucket made the score 17-15.
Trine then took over, ripping off a 24-1 run over the next 7:26 to open up a 21-point lead. Overall, the Thunder held the Lakes without a field goal for a span of 8:32. Dixon led the way during that run, scoring all nine of his first half points during that stretch. Layups by Kreglow, Luke Wenger (Howell, Mich./Livingston Christian) and Woolett capped off a 15-0 run to give Trine a 39-18 advantage with 5:01 to play in the first half.
Great Lakes Christian got no closer than 17 points the rest of the way. The Thunder would go on to lead by as much as 30 in the second half. Nine players scored in the second half for Trine.
The Thunder will host the St. Andrews Products Classic next Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 19-20 in Hershey Hall. Trine will face Millikin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, before concluding the Classic with a 3 p.m. game against Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Sunday.
