LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) has announced their end of year academic awards for the 2022 season with both Trine University men's lacrosse earning both team and individual recognition. The Thunder were named a Scholar All-American Team while senior Dave Keptner (Midland, Mich. / H.H. Dow) was named a Scholar All-American by the organization capping off his outstanding final season.
"Dave has had a tremendous season and is very deserving of this honor," said head coach Ryan Kuhn, "He's been a leader for us both on and off the field and has become one of the most decorated players to have ever worn a Trine Jersey. He's had as dominant a season which will go down as one of the best for any defender in program history."
This season was a spectacular end to the fifth-year senior's career at Trine, breaking multiple records. In just the fourth game of the season Keptner recorded eight caused turnovers against Ohio Northern University, a program record for a single game.
It would set the tone for the season which would see Keptner become the career leader at Trine in caused turnovers with 113 through the season, surpassing the old record of 80. He then also shattered the program record for caused turnovers in a single season with 51, surpassing the next best effort by 16.
Keptner would also post 94 groundballs during the season, leading the team. The total represents the second-best single season by a Thunder player. It also grows his career tally to 248, moving him solidly into second on the career lists for the program.
Keptner earned his third All-MIAA selection, the second time he has placed on first team. He graduates from Trine with a degree in Chemical Engineering and a 3.41 GPA.
