ROYAL OAK, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Trine University guard Kelcey Swisher its Player of the Week in women’s basketball for games played through December 30. This marks the second straight week that a Trine player has earned the honor.
Swisher, a freshman from Williamsport, Ind. (Seeger Memorial HS), averaged 15 points as Thunder split two games in the SportONE Shootout hosted by Indiana Tech. She came off the bench to score 10 points in a 61-56 loss to Spring Arbor. Then, in her first collegiate start, poured in 20 points and added three steals in a 99-79 win over Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. Swisher, who is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her career, made 9 of 14 shots from the field (64 percent), including 4 of 7 (57 percent) from 3-point range, and sank all eight of her free throws for the tournament.
Since joining the MIAA in 2004, this marks the first time that the Trine women’s team has earned back-to-back Players of the Week. It also marks the first time that two different players have received Player of the Week honors in the same season.
