ROAL OAK, Mich. - For the first time in since joining the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the Trine University women’s basketball team had two players named All-MIAA. Senior Sydney Spragg (Reading, Mich./Reading) was named to the first team while fellow senior Megan Loveberry (Quincy, Mich./Quincy) earned second team honors. Under former NBA All-Star and first-year head coach Steve Mix, the Thunder finished the season with their first winning record since joining the NCAA in 2004.
Spragg, the second Trine player ever to earn first team honors and the first since Sarah Howe did so in back-to-back seasons in 2007-08 and 2008-09, had a career season as she finished second in the conference in scoring with 17.7 points per game. Spragg was ranked in the top-10 in the conference in five other statistical categories including: third in steals, fourth in 3-point percentage, fifth in field goal percentage, eighth in free throw percentage and ninth in 3-point field goals made.
Loveberry finished her second season at Trine University after transferring, 17th in the MIAA in scoring, averaging 8.2 points per game. Loveberry scored 20-plus points in her final three regular season MIAA games and was a defensive machine for the Thunder. Despite being the shortest player on the team, Loveberry finished seventh in the conference in rebounding. She also finished the season fourth in the MIAA in steals, tied for seventh in assists and ninth in 3-point field goal percentage.
