HUNTINGTON, Ind. -- The Trine University women's soccer team came up with a 3-0 victory over their hosts from Huntington (Ind.) University. Three different Thunder student-athletes came up with goals in the contest.
Trine looked set to roll over the Foresters as they scored their first goal of the contest just over five minutes into the contest. Freshman Taylor Noll (Anna, Ohio / Anna) came up with the ball inside of the penalty area and forced a pass to junior Mia Schlueter (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carrol) who was able to push the ball by the keeper for the goal.
Huntington was able to chop down any potential run of goals however and Thunder's 1-0 lead would last until the final seconds of the opening half.
With under 40 seconds remaining in the half, senior Logan Sagstetter (Leo, Ind. / Leo) came up with a goal to push the lead to 2-0. Sophomore Grace Meara (St. Louis, Mo. / Lindbergh) added an assist on the goal.
Trine scored their final goal of the contest in the 58th minute of the game. This time sophomore Veronica Ocampo (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) scored with help from freshman Olivia Argentieri (East Amherst, N.Y. / Clarence). The 3-0 lead would end up being the final.
In goal sophomore Carmen Sweigard (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon) picked up another shutout for the season. She finished with two saves in the contest.
The Thunder improve to 6-1 following the victory. They will next take the pitch when they host Bluffton University on Tuesday, October 13. The contest will take place in Zollner Stadium and is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
