ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's soccer team picked up a 3-1 victory over visiting Earlham College following senior day festivities before the match. The ninth win of the season makes this year's team the winningest in the program's NCAA Division III history.
After the shorthanded Quakers mounted a strong start to hold the game at scoreless for the first 27-minutes of play, the Thunder finally found the back of the back of the net in the 28th minute of the contest. The goal came from sophomore Olivia Argentieri (East Amherst, N.Y. / Clarence) after she was set up by freshman Bella Mabry (Oregon, Ohio / Clay).
Trine would double their lead before halftime. This time freshman Paige Skaff (Plymouth, Ind. / Plainfield) came up with the goal on her own giving the team a 2-0 lead.
The Thunder added to their lead again in the 63rd minute when Mabry received a pass from Skaff and buried the shot in the net. Earlham would tally their lone goal of the match in the 81st minute and the game would end 3-1 in favor of Trine.
The Thunder improve to 9-0-1 following the victory. They will open the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association portion of their schedule when they host Saint Mary's College on Tuesday, Sept. 28. The game which is set to be played on Shive Field is scheduled to start at 7:15 p.m.
