FREELAND, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has unveiled the preseason poll for women's soccer heading into the 2021 fall season. The Trine University women's soccer team was voted to place seventh by conference head coaches.
Calvin is the preseason favorite to take the league crown this season with 61 total points. The Knights were unbeaten in the unconventional MIAA spring season last year.
The Thunder are coming off an 8-6 year in the fall and spring seasons combined. Head coach Gary Boughton is in his third season at the helm of the program and looking to build on the strides made in 2020-21.
The top point scorer Taylor Noll [Anna, Ohio / Anna] returns to the Trine lineup in 2021 after tallying seven goals and five assists. Noll secured her first career hat trick and notched two assists in an early regular season win at Grace Christian.
Veronica Ocampo [Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial] holds down the midfield for the Thunder and tied Noll for a team-high five assists last season. Ocampo hit the back of the net three times that contributed to wins against Indiana-Kokomo, Indiana Tech and Huntington.
Defensively, Andrea Wright [Plainfield, Ind. / Plainfield] started in 12 games and helped lead Trine to five shutouts. The Thunder defense held opponents scoreless in four consecutive games, including the conference opener in the spring against Olivet.
Trine women's soccer begins play with a home match versus Franklin College on September 1 at 4 pm.
