SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Trine University women's soccer team scored first but allowed an equalizer and ended the day in a 1-1 draw with their hosts from Wittenberg University.
The Thunder took off right from the start of the contest recording the first two shots of the game in the first four minutes. The first went to junior Bella Mabry whose aim was a touch high, missing the goal over the crossbar.
The second shot went to sophomore Abby Robison and was right on target. Her third goal of the season gave the team an early 1-0 lead.
Sophomore Andi Lipic added a third shot for the team right after the ensuing kickoff, joining Mabry in sending it high over the net. It ended up being the final shot for the Thunder for just under 40 minutes of game time, with the Tigers succeeding in turning the tide.
Wittenberg drew a pair of corner kicks in the 32nd minute of the half and converted on the second to tie the game at one.
It was the final goal of the contest but not for lack of trying on the part of the home team. Sophomore Madison Kinneer played the game in net for Trine and ended the contest with five saves, while allowing just the one goal. She improves to 1-0-1 as a starter after earning her first career victory against Franklin earlier this week.
Trine falls to 2-1-4 following the tie. They will continue their road trip by facing off with Capital University tomorrow, Sunday, September 17. Kickoff for the contest is scheduled for 4 p.m.
