HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced that sophomore Francesca Fronczak has been named this week's Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week.
It is the first time this season that a Thunder student-athlete has been named athlete of the week and the first time in Fronczak's career that she has earned the honor.
Trine finished the week 1-0-1 at the Bob Baptista Invitational hosted by Wheaton College, mostly on the back of a strong defensive effort led by Fronczak and company.
The Thunder began the season by battling to a 0-0 draw with the hosts from Wheaton. The defense allowed just one shot on goal and nine total in the contest to help secure the scoreless result. Then on Saturday the unit upped their game allowing zero shots against Greenville University as the team cruised to a 3-0 victory.
Fronczak added to her weekend by setting up the opening and ultimately game-winning goal. She took the opening corner kick of match and placed it inside the keeper's area where teammate Andi Lipic was waiting to score the goal.
Trine takes the pitch again today, Tuesday, September 5 at 4 p.m. They travel to face Otterbein University.
