INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Trine University women's soccer team will make their first appearance in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament after receiving an at-large berth. The team will face off with nationally-ranked Carnegie Mellon University in the opening round.
The match is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13 and will be hosted by McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland. Live stats and video of the match will be provided by McDaniel College.
Carnegie Mellon, like the Thunder, received an at-large bid to the championship and are making their eight appearance in nine years. The team finished the season ranked 15th in the United Soccer Coaches Division III Poll and with a record of 11-5-1. The Tartans are used to tough competition with eight of their matches coming against other programs appearing in the championship.
The Thunder finished runner up in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women's Soccer Tournament following a 3-1 loss to Hope College in the championship game. The team is also well versed in tough competition having faced off with four other teams also set to compete on Saturday. Trine finished the year with a 15-4-2 record, shattering the previous program record for most wins in a season. The offense has been a powerful tool for the team as they have also outscored all previous iterations of Thunder women's soccer.
Admission for the contest will be six dollars for adults and three dollars for children, students and senior citizens. Children two and under will be admitted for free.
The winner of the match will advance to the second round and will face off with either host McDaniel or Penn State Harrisburg on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m.
