ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's tennis team won all but one match on their way to a lopsided 8-1 victory over visiting Albion College. The contest was forced indoors due to cold weather and flurries.
The Thunder would receive their lone loss of the contest during the doubles portion of the contest but still came away with a 2-1 lead. Seniors Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) would give the team their first point of the day winning the No. 1 singles match in straight games, 8-0. In the No. 3 match junior Eva Morales (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) and freshman Kennedy Outwater (Bronson, Mich. / Bronson) would win 8-1 for the team's other point.
The team would cruise to victory sweeping the singles portion of the match to secure the win. Spirrison in the No. 1 match and Cole in the No. 5 would finish the match perfect, neither dropping a single game with 6-0, 6-0 wins. Morales in the No. 4 match and Outwater in the No. 6 match would also turn in matching performances both winning 6-1, 6-0
Sophomore Jadyn Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) would rebound from a loss in doubles with a 6-3, 6-0 victory in the No. 2 match and freshman Bekah Trent (Harrodsburg, Kent. / Mercer County Sr.) would do the same in the No. 3 match with a 6-3, 6-1 win.
Trine improves to 10-5 overall and 3-2 in MIAA play following the victory. They will continue their season when they travel to face Hope College on Wednesday, April 13. The match is set to start at 4 p.m.
