PENDLETON, Ind. – The Trine University women's tennis team held on to a hard-fought victory over their hosts from Anderson (Ind.) University, winning the day by the score of 5-4.
The Thunder picked up two doubles points to start the contest. Elina Locane and Alexis Maloney combined for the closest of the doubles wins, taking the No. 1 match by the score of 8-4. In the No. 2 match, Emilee Bassett and Haley Straub cruised to an 8-2 victory.
After Locane went down in the No. 1 singles match, Bassett responded with the first win of the second half of Trine, winning the No. 2 match with scores of 6-1, 6-2. Maloney also went undefeated for the day taking the No. 3 match 6-3, 6-2. No. 4 and No. 5 went to the Ravens tying the contest at four with just the No. 6 match remaining. Lizzie Welker battled through a tight first set before sweeping the second to secure the dual victory for the team with a 7-5, 6-0 win.
The Thunder improve to 8-4 overall following the victory. They will enter the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) portion of their schedule when they next take the courts on Saturday, March 23. The dual match against The University of Olivet is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
