HILLSDALE, MICH. -- Members of the Trine University women's outdoor track and field team competed in the first day of competition at the annual Gina Relays hosted by Hillsdale (Mich.) College in Hillsdale, Mich.
The lone event of the day for the women was the 5000-meter run with a field comprised of athletes from NCAA Division I, II and III schools as well as NAIA. Sophomore Alli Smith (Temperance, Mich./Temperance Bedford) was Trine's top finisher who came in first in her respective session and placed 32nd overall out of 77 total runners with a time of 18:40.76.
Senior Ruth Luebcke (Harlem, Ga./Crown Point) was the only other Trine runner to compete on the first day and crossed the finish line in a time of 19:17.43 to place 53rd overall.
Trine continues the three-day event when competition resumes tomorrow (Friday, Apr. 23) at Hillsdale College. The first events are slated to start at noon.
