FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Trine University women's track and field team competed at Indiana Tech on Friday night and sent most team members to the event to get a feel for the 2023-24 season. The Thunder turned in several times that are closing in on school record marks at the event.
Junior Lydia Randolph had the team's only event win at Indiana Tech in the 3000-meter run. She completed the race in 10:31.21. Top five finishes were also credited to sophomore Avery Boyce in the pole vault (3.02 meters / 9' 10.75") in third and sophomore Brynn Mericle in the 60-meter hurdles (9.59 seconds) in fourth.
Junior Mackenzie Miller was one of the highlights for Trine as well with the best times in both the 60-meter hurdles and long jump. She was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles at 7.93 seconds and third in the long jump at 5.30 meters (17' 4.75"), both marks closing in on the school records.
Just missing the top five were sophomore Adrianne Jackson in the 400-meter run (1:03.44) and freshman Sophia Altman in the 600-meter run (1:48.89). Both student-athletes were sixth when they crossed the finish line. Sophomore Aniyah Small was tenth overall in the 200-meter run with a time of 26.78 seconds to pace the team in that event.
Sophomore Kassandra Swank had the best score for Trine in two separate throwing events. She was 11th in the weight throw (12.32 meters / 40' 5.00") and 15th in the shot put (9.40 meters / 30' 10.25"). Freshman Isabel Ferguson completed the high jump in eighth with a score of 1.44 meters (4' 8.75").
The first home event of the season is next on the schedule for the Thunder women in the Sean Brady Alumni Invitational on Saturday, January 13.
