NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Trine University women's track and field team was second overall behind just the host school North Central College at the Snow Day Invite on Friday.
Starting with field events, Valerie Obear [Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern] led the way in the weight throw with a toss of 17.36 meters. The first-place score was just off her personal best. Freshman Aubrey Larner [Williamston, Mich. / Okemos] secured second-place finishes in both the high jump at 1.52 meters (4' 11.75") and long jump at 5.14 meters (16' 10.5").
Trine's highest point production on the day came in the 3,000-meter run, with underclassmen Carol Haldeman [Syracuse, Ind. / Fairfield] and Lydia Randolph [Jefferson, Ohio / Edgewood Senior] going 1-2 in the event. Haldeman finished with a personal best time of 10:40.24, while Randolph set a time of 10:47.31, taking eight seconds off her previous best. Hannah Parker [New Whiteland, Ind. / Whiteland Community] was just behind them in fourth (11:18.46), a new best time for the freshman by 17 seconds.
Amira Faulkner [Bellbrook, Ohio / Bellbrook] won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.39. Marissa Kenney [South Bend, Ind. / J.W. Riley] was also a scoring member of the Thunder team with a sixth-place 2:31.12, the sophomore's personal best. Ana Parker [White Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern] showed pace in the mile run with a second-place time of 5:41.99.
Sophomore Haley Livingston [Fort Worth, Texas / Everman] was Trine's top performer in two events: the 60-meter hurdles and 200-meter run. In the 60-meter hurdles, Livingston posted a second-place time of 9.21 seconds and crossed the line fourth in the 200-meter run at 27.63 seconds.
Kennedi Sternberg [Kouts, Ind. / Kouts] placed third in the 60-meter dash at 8.31 seconds, while Stephanie Hartpence [Elkhart, Ind. / Concord] led a trio of top eight Thunder athletes in the 400-meter run with a third as well (1:04.45). Paige McGonigal [Coventry Twp., Ohio / Coventry] finished fifth and Anissa Rios [Chandler, Ariz. / Corona del Sol] eighth in one of the higher scoring events of the night for Trine.
The team of Kenney, Ana Parker, Faulkner and McGonigal were second-place finishers in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:31.28.
The Trine track and field programs will enter a variety of events on Saturday, January 29, including the Joe Banks Invitational, Steemer Showcase and Indiana Relays.
