NEW ORLEANS, La. – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the week five National Rating Index for women's outdoor track and field. The Trine University women's track and field tram has moved up two spots to ninth in the country this week.
The Thunder had two women named Athletes of the Week, one being Evie Miller [Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead] who was named National Athlete of the Week for NCAA DIII women by the USTFCCCA for her performance at the Indiana Invitational. Miller boasted a 10:06.26 in the 3000-meter steeplechase, the second-fastest time in NCAA DIII history. Trine also saw sophomore Haley Livingston [Fort Worth, Texas / Everman] win Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Athlete of the Week with four point-scoring events at the Little State Championships. The sophomore broke school records in the 100- and 400-meter hurdle events at 14.57 seconds and 1:05.83.
Senior thrower Valerie Obear [Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern] also secured a school record at the Little State Championships with a new best hammer throw of 59.50 meters (195' 2.5"). That breaks a mark set by Kara Eck is 2017. She also scored team points in the discus with a sixth-place toss of 41.19 meters (135' 1.75").
The Thunder will take part in the Lancer Invitational at Grace College on Friday, April 29 for their last tune-up before the MIAA Outdoor Championships.
