ANN ARBOR, Mich. – At the Alumni Legacy Meet at Concordia University-Ann Arbor on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27, the Trine University women's track and field team made their final preparations before the postseason.
The first day of the event saw Thunder student-athletes competing in the hammer throw, javelin and triple jump. Abby Sanner was the event champion in the hammer throw with a new personal best score of 46.59 meters (152' 10.00"). Malena Ricks led Trine in the javelin with a second-place toss of 33.91 meters (111' 3.00"). Katie Berlew was fourth in the event as well at 29.14 meters (95' 7.00"). Adrianne Jackson was sixth overall in the triple jump at 9.16 meters (30' 0.75").
Sanner also had the best score for the Thunder on day two in the shot put and discus. She was fourth in each event, with a 11.21-meter (36' 9.50") shot put and 35.14-meter (115' 3.00") discus.
In track events, Mackenzie Miller was runner-up in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.02 seconds. Third, fourth and fifth spots belonged to Trine in the 400-meter hurdles with Jackson (1:08.62), Brynn Mericle (1:09.79) and Kristin Baker (1:11.77) turning in quality times. Mericle had the fastest time for the team in the 100-meter hurdles as well at 15.36 seconds (third) and Miller in the 200-meter dash at 12.43 seconds (fourth).
Anissa Rios and Marissa Kenney each turned in eighth place finishes in the 400-meter dash and 1500-meter run. Rios ran a 1:04.94 and Kenney a 5:16.25 in their events.
Next week marks the start of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships at Calvin University on Thursday, May 2.
