GREENWOOD, Ind. – Senior Valerie Obear [Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern] of the Trine University women's track and field team has been named CoSIDA Academic All-District for her efforts as a thrower and in the classroom for the 2021-22 season.
A Forensic Science and Chemistry major with a minor in Forensic Psychology, Obear was named Academic All-District 7 for the second time in her career, with the first coming at the conclusion of the 2020-21 season.
Obear represented the Thunder at the NCAA DIII National Championships in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. She competed in the weight throw during the indoor campaign as well as the discus and hammer throw in the outdoor season. She broke the school record in all three field events and won two Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) titles with her first-place weight throw at the Indoor meet and hammer throw score that broke the meet record at the Outdoor Championships.
By being named Academic All-District, Obear will be on the ballot to be voted as an Academic All-American. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-Americans will be announced on Tuesday, June 21.
