HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced their track and field Athlete of the Week award winners. The Trine University men's track and field team won the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships for the fourth consecutive season on Saturday.
The Thunder had two representatives honored by the conference. Seniors Jake Gladieux and Jacob Barkey were the MIAA Track and Field Athlete of the Week award recipients.
Gladieux, the Oregon, Ohio native, competed in three events for Trine during the indoor championships: the 60-meter hurdles, the 200-meter dash and was a participant on the 4x400-meter relay team. Gladieux was the conference champion in the 60-meter hurdle event for the fourth straight year. He had a time of 8.13 seconds in the finals and took eight-hundredths of a second off his preliminary time. In the 200-meter dash, he was third overall with a time of 22.52 seconds and the 4x400-meter relay team was seventh (3:48.32).
The senior from Waterloo, Indiana, Barkey competed in the weight throw for the Thunder and secured a new personal best score. He finished third overall with a toss of 17.06 meters (55' 11.75"). Barkey just missed out on a second-place score on the day by three-hundredths of a meter. It is his first career MIAA Athlete of the Week award.
Trine track and field will compete in the Polar Bear Final Qualifier at Ohio Northern University on March 3-4 for one last chance to make it to the NCAA DIII Indoor National Championships.
