FREELAND, MICH. -- Trine University women's basketball player Kelsy Taylor (Louisville, Ky./New Albany) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women's Basketball "Player of the Week."
The Thunder are coming off of a week that saw the Thunder post a 3-0 record with wins against Kalamazoo (Mich.) College, Alma (Mich.) College and Olivet (Mich.) College. The three victories improved Trine's overall record to 9-1 and remained unbeaten in conference play with a 3-0 mark.
Individually, Taylor averaged 13.3 points per game for the week and shot 58.6 percent (17-of-29) from the field. She was also six-of-seven (85.7 percent) at the free-throw line. Taylor scored a career-high 20 points in the game against Alma and also scored 14 points to start the week in the win against Kalamazoo.
Taylor finished second on the team in rebounding for the week with 5.7 boards per game. She also had a pair of blocked shots and three steals.
Through 10 games, Taylor is third on the team in scoring at 9.8 ppg. and is among the team leaders in field goal percentage at 61.8 percent (42-of-68). She is tied for second in rebounds at 5.4 rpg. and is second in blocked shots with seven.
Trine will play its next two games on the road starting with a MIAA matchup against Calvin (Mich.) University on Wednesday (Feb. 17) in Grand Rapids, Mich. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
