ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine University women's basketball team moved up to fifth place in the latest D3hoops.com poll.
The Thunder are coming off of a week that saw the Thunder post a 3-0 record with wins against Kalamazoo (Mich.) College, Alma (Mich.) College and Olivet (Mich.) College. The three victories improved Trine's overall record to 9-1 and remained unbeaten in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play with a 3-0 mark.
Trine currently has two players who average 10 or more points per game in juniors Tara Bieniewicz (Chesterfield, Mich./Dakota) and Kayla Wildman (Freeland, Mich./Freeland). Bieniewicz leads the team in scoring at 10.6 ppg. and shoots 38.7 percent (29-of-75) from the field. She also leads the team in three-pointers made (15) and attempts (42). Wildman averages 10.1 ppg. on 36.8 percent (25-of-68) from the floor.
Sophomore Sam Underhill (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) is the team's leading rebounder with a 6.0 rebounds per game average. Junior Kelsy Taylor (Louisville, Ky./New Albany) and senior Shay Herbert (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney) are a close second with 5.4 rpg. each. Junior Kaylee Argyle (Freeland, Mich./Freeland) and sophomore Alyssa Argyle (Freeland, Mich./Freeland) are first and second on the team in assists with 19 and 18, respectively.
In addition to the D3hoops.com rankings, the Thunder are ranked second in the Massey Rankings. The Massey Rankings were created by Kenneth Massey to provide objective team evaluation for professional, college, and high school sports. His college football ratings were a component of the Bowl Championship Series from 1999-2013.
Trine will play its next two games on the road starting with a MIAA matchup against Calvin (Mich.) University on Wednesday (Feb. 17) in Grand Rapids, Mich. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
