CORAL SPRINGS, FLA. -- Members of the Trine University women's golf team were recognized for their efforts in the classroom by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) as All-American Scholars.
Minimum criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team is a cumulative GPA of 3.50. A total of 1,401 women's collegiate golfers were recognized across all NCAA Divisions (I, II, III) and NAIA.
A total of five Trine players were named to the scholar team in Mackenna Kelly (Angola, Ind./Angola), Jenna Doumont (Burlington, Ky./Villa Madonna Academy), Maire Sullivan (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth), Olivia Phillips (Muncie, Ind./Muncie) and Reagan Guthrie (Genoa, Ohio/Genoa Area).
During the golf season, the Thunder finished third as a team in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 2019-20 and qualified for the four-team spring automatic qualifier before the season was cancelled. Trine shot an overall score of 685 strokes (328+357=685) to place third of nine teams. In addition, two Trine competitors were named All-MIAA in Doumont and Lyndsey Welper (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion). Both players were selected to the second team. Doumont and Welper became the first Trine women's golfers to earn All-MIAA accolades since the 2016-17 season.
