RICHLAND, Mich. – In the first of two rounds for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships, the Trine University women's golf team struggled as a whole and is currently eighth at the halfway mark. However, junior Grace Dubec shot a new personal best low score of 75 on the day to top the field by two strokes on Monday.
Dubec caught fire on the front nine and shot a two-under 34. She had birdies on holes four, five and nine, including both par-5 holes on the front. She put together a string of three consecutive birdies on the back nine, holes 13-15 to help notch her career-low score and put herself in position to be named All-MIAA. Dubec moved up from 13th to 6th on the league leaderboard with 18 holes remaining in the conference season.
Freshman Mae Norman is tied for 27th through the first round after shooting an 88. She hit for birdie on the par-4 eighth hole to highlight her afternoon. Sophomores Calley Ruff and Grace Thiele are tied for 36th and 39th after round one. They carded a 95 and a 98. Senior Caroline Boyd had a 100 as the team's final scoring member. Junior Bailey Bravata had the lowest score of the individuals in action at the event with an 85. She is currently tied for 15th overall. Bravata hit for par on the final three holes on the course.
The second round of the MIAA Championships will be contested on Tuesday, April 23 at Gull Lake View West. Tee time is set for 10 a.m.
