ANGOLA, Ind. - Trine (2-14, 1-12 MIAA) scored first in about five minutes into the contest, but would surrender two goals in the first half, the second on a savable corner kick from the Comets. Behind 2-1, Olivet (7-9, 4-9 MIAA) added one more tally to the score in the 56th minute off a great passing setup. Trine was outshot for the game overall 14 to 9, but was even with the Comets in the second half with six shots each. Goalkeeper Sloan Davis had four saves on the day for Trine.
The opening minutes featured a fast start from Trine, who saw Jamie McCarrell (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) boom a shot from about 25 yards out and have it soar right down the middle of the field past the goalkeeper. Several minutes later, Olivet got on the board thanks to a great play by Emily Chzasz and setup by Lindsey Winters.
In the 17th minute, Ruth Feliciano (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) made a great play and stopped a quick run by Olivet. Feliciano cut off a Comet player who was beginning to breakaway and cut off the scoring opportunity with a great slide tackle. Olivet would stave off any other Thunder opportunities and go into halftime with a 2-1 lead thanks to a corner kick that sailed over the head of the Trine goalkeeper.
Corner kicks were uncommon in the second half, as both teams combines for three opportunities after only getting five in the first half. Trine would not be able to set up another goal to keep pace with the Comets, who took a 3-1 lead in the 56th minute. Olivet soared ahead of Trine late in the first half and never looked back, despite the Thunder putting up a willing fight to the very end.
Trine's last three games of the season are all on the road beginning Wednesday against Albion at 3 p.m.
