ANGOLA, Ind. - The Trine women’s tennis team dropped their conference match to regionally ranked Kalamazoo 9-0. The Thunder are now 4-8 on the season and 0-4 in conference play.
The Lady Thunder ran into the Hornets who are ranked 21st regionally and dropped every match. Sophomore Jessica Huhnke (Newburgh, Ind./Castle) and sophomore Lauren Schlueter (Akron, Ohio/Revere) lost at first doubles 8-4 and the second doubles team of sophomore Chrissy Uphaus (Centerville, Ind./Centerville) and junior Samantha Willmann (Anderson, Ind./Frankton) fell 8-3. At third doubles, freshman Erin Kwaske (Jackson, Mich./Western) and junior Kaylynne Goeglein (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) lost 8-1.
The singles matches went much better for the Thunder but they were still unable to capture a win. Huhnke, the reigning MIAA Player of the Week, lost her first match of the season as she fell in an extremely tight match 6-3, 1-6, (10-8). Uphaus lost another close match at second singles 7-5, 7-6 (5). Schlueter dropped her third singles match 6-2, 6-0 and freshman Erin Kwaske also lost at fourth singles 6-1, 6-4. Goeglein got the start at fifth singles and fell 6-1, 6-3 and junior Susan Breinling (Fremont, Mich./Faith Christian) lost a very close match 6-2, 4-6, (10-3).
Trine will get the weekend off as they next take the court on April 11th where they look for their first conference win at Albion College at 4:00 pm.
