ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine University women's indoor track and field team finished third overall at the 2020 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Indoor Championship hosted by the Thunder at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center in Angola, Ind.
Hope (Mich.) College finished as the overall team champion with 198.83 points and was followed by Albion (Mich.) College in second place with 123.33 points. Trine posted a team score of 116 points to place third of seven teams.
Junior Evie Bultemeyer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) finished as the individual champion in three events that included the 400-meter dash, the 800-meter dash and mile run and was also part of a winning relay team. In the 400m, she posted a winning time of 59.08 seconds and then had a top overall mark of 2:17.59 in the 800m. She capped her individual day on the track with a time of 5:08.27 in the mile to take top honors.
Other top-five performances on the afternoon included the duo of freshman Alli Smith (Temperance, Mich./Temperance Bedford) and junior Elizabeth Lohman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) in both the 3000-meter and 5000-meter run. In the 3000m, Smith finished just ahead of Lohman with a time of 10:41.28 to place fourth overall. Lohman ran a time of 10:41.38 and was fifth. In the 5000m, Smith had a mark of 18:11.17 which was the third fastest time of the event and Lohman was fourth in a time of 18;12.22.
In the 60-meter hurdles, senior Massie Jo Maskow (Howe, Ind./Lakeland) crossed the finish line in a time of 10.08 seconds to finish fifth overall.
In relay action, the team of sophomore Stephanie Hartpence (Elkhart, Ind./Concord), sophomore Chloe Brittain (Breckenridge, Mich./Breckenridge), freshman Amira Faulkner (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) and Bultemeyer finished with the top overall time of 4:12.58.
Freshman Sammi Silva (Oregon, Ohio/Oregon), sophomores Paige McGonigal (Coventry Twp., Ohio/Coventry), Madi Howard (Stockbrige, Mich./Stockbridge) and junior Megan Theismann (Ossian, Ind. Norwell) finished as the runner-up in the Distance Medley Relay after posting an overall time of 13:08.34.
Trine had two event champions in the field events in sophomores Valerie Obear (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) and Autumn Presley (Pleasant Lake, Ind./Angola). Obear captured the weight throw with a toss of 56' 10.00" and Presley won the pole vault at a height of 10' 0.00." Senior Andrea Hagar (Goshen, Ind./Fairfield) placed fifth in the same event after recording a best distance of 47' 3.50."
Freshman Lia Vawter (Franklin, Ind./Franklin) rounded out the top-five placers for the Thunder on the afternoon with a second-place showing in the high jump by clearing a height of 4' 11.00."
Next on the schedule is the two-day Wartburg (Iowa) Last Chance Meet before the NCAA Division Indoor Championships. The Last Chance Meet is set for Friday-Saturday, Mar. 6-7 in Waverly, Iowa. Start time is TBA.
