Tyler Wellman
Title: Assistant Coach/QB/Passing Game Coordinator
Phone: 260.665.4637
Email: wellmant@trine.edu

Tyler Wellman will be in his second season as a member of the Trine University football coaching staff for the 2020 campaign.  Wellman will be in charge of working with the quarterbacks and serving as the passing game coordinator.

In his first season at Trine, the offense averaged 321.9 total yards.  The Trine offense racked up 300 or more yards of offense in five games, including two games of over 400 yards with a season-high 477-yard performance in a win against Finlandia (Mich.) University.  The passing game accounted for 1,333 of the team's 3,219 total yards.  The Thunder averaged 13.7 yards per pass completion which ranked second overall in the MIAA.

Wellman joined the Thunder coaching staff after a short stay at Aurora (Ill.) University where he coached the offensive line.

Before arriving at Aurora, Wellman spent five seasons with Lakeland (Wis.) College as the offensive line coach and also served as the offensive coordinator for four of those seasons. In each of the four years he served as offensive coordinator, Wellman's Muskies won or shared the  Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) championship.

Prior to his years of service at Lakeland, Wellman was an assistant coach at Alma (Mich.) College for five seasons. He coached the offensive line in four of his five years coaching with the Scots, as he coached the wide receivers for one season in 2011.

Wellman is an alumnus of Alma, where he was a four-year starter on the offensive line for the Scots at center, guard and tackle. He made 41 consecutive starts in his career and was a captain of the 2007 squad. Wellman was a member of the Scots' 2004 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship team and earned second-team All-MIAA honors in 2007 after being recognized as a MIAA honorable mention offensive lineman in 2006.

A 2008 graduate of Alma with a bachelor’s degree in history, he has his master's degree in sport administration from Central Michigan University.
