BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Trine University men's golf team posted a strong team score as they came away with a victory at the Lou Collins Memorial Tournament, hosted by Olivet College.
The Thunder ended day one in a tie atop the leaderboard with fellow Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) squad, Adrian College. Today, Trine posted a team score of 294 to the Bulldogs 300 to finish the event in first with at total score of 586 strokes.
Senior Mitch Lowney matched his score from yesterday to once again lead the team. He posted three birdies and an eagle to record his second two-under 70 round of the tournament. All told he finishes the weekend four-under par with 140 strokes becoming the event's medalist with the lowest individual score.
Classmate Mark Civanich shaved three strokes off his score to post a one-under 71 on the second day of the event. He recorded four birdies on the day, including three on the back-nine to complete the weekend with a total of 145 strokes, finishing in a tie for fifth as an individual.
Charlie Eriksen struggled a bit during the middle portion of his round, but recorded three birdies to post a score of 74 on the day. He finished the weekend with 147 strokes to come in eighth as an individual.
Junior Carter Rang posted the team's fourth counting score of the day with 79 strokes, his total for the weekend was 156 strokes for a 26th place finish. Sophomore Kyler Rod finished the day with 80 strokes to post a total score of 155 for a 22nd place finish. As an individual freshman Carter Schnipke wrapped up play with 76 strokes to finish the tournament in a tie for 36th with 157 strokes.
The team returns to action on Friday, September 15 when they compete in the opening round of the Irish Hills Invitational at the Tecumseh Golf Club in Tecumseh, Mich.
