TECUMSEH, Mich. – On Saturday, the Trine University men's golf team was in action at the third Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree event of the 2022 fall season, this time at Tecumseh Golf Club, home of the Adrian College Bulldogs. The Thunder were second-place overall as a team, with a pair of team members finishing in the top three on the player leaderboard.
It was Hope College that finished two strokes ahead of Trine at 302 compared to 304 and continued to build upon their lead in the MIAA standings. Halfway through the conference season, the Flying Dutch are 19 strokes ahead of the second-place Thunder.
Mark Civanich tied for the lowest score at the event at even-par 72 to become an individual medalist with Hope's Will Robson for the second straight round. They two have had identical scorecards through the first 54 holes of league play. Civanich went under-par on holes one, seven and ten this afternoon.
Kyler Rod had the most birdies on the Trine roster with four to card a 74. That was good enough for third-place overall. Carter Schnipke fired a 78 and Mitch Lowney an 80 to wrap up countable scoring for the team. Schnipke hit for birdie on both front nine par-3 holes and Lowney's lone birdie on the day came on the par-5 16th.
Charlie Eriksen shot an 84 on Saturday with two birdies on the back nine. Individual scorer Nick Coccaro finished the day with an 85.
It is a quick turnaround for the Thunder as they compete in MIAA Jamboree #4 on Monday, October 10. The team will travel to Kalamazoo Country Club for the final tune-up before the MIAA Fall Championships next weekend.
