NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) have announced the 2022-23 recipients of the All-America Scholar award. Three members of the Trine University men's golf team were honored for their efforts on the course and in the classroom this past season in senior Charlie Eriksen, junior Mark Civanich and sophomore Kyler Rod.
To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
Eriksen had a season average of 77.95 in 2022-23 that was highlighted by a fifth-place finish in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree #2. Civanich was the MIAA Individual champion and was inside the top-five in all six conference rounds last fall. He averaged a team-low score of 73.24 in 21 rounds. Rod was a Second Team All-MIAA honoree with the help of a third-place spot at MIAA Jamboree #3. He held an average score of 78.88 over the course of the year.
It is the second time in his career that Civanich has been tabbed a GCAA All-America Scholar. Eriksen and Rod each earned their first GCAA All-America Scholar award of their careers.
