ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine women's soccer team was defeated by Alma in overtime, 2-1 in MIAA-action Tuesday afternoon at Weaver Field.
The Thunder scored first to grab an early lead, but the Scots knotted the score in the second half to force OT. Kelly Wilson scored just 1:47 into the extra stanza to give Alma the victory. Skyler Reed (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) scored Trine's goal. Kristina Veljovic played a superb game in net for the Thunder, making a career-high 12 saves. The senior duo of Jamie McCarrell (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) and Reed connected just over 14 minutes in to get the Thunder on the board. McCarrell sent a cross from the corner into the box. Reed stuck her leg in the air to re-direct it into the back of the net for a 1-0 Trine lead. The goal was Reed's first of the season and the 10th of her career.
The Scots evened things up midway through the second half when Bryn Kittle scored on a cross from Whitnee Foote.
Veljovic came up huge in the second half to keep things tied. Her several sprawling saves included a one-handed, diving stop off a header with under a minute to play.
