FREELAND, Mich. -- Trine University junior Kyle Naif (Riverview, Mich. / Riverview) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week.
This is the second time this season, and in his career, that Naif has received athlete of the week honors. Earlier this year he was named defensive athlete of the week. This is the fourth time this season that a Thunder football student-athlete has been recognized.
Naif made a splash on special teams in the opening quarter of the Thunder's game against Kalamazoo College. With Trine leading 7-0, Naif burst through the line and blocked the Hornet's punt attempt into their own endzone. The play ended with the Kalamazoo recovering the ball in the endzone for the Trine Safety giving the team a 9-0 lead and another possession.
In addition to his special team's accomplishment, Naif finished the game with four tackles including a sack and two tackles for a loss.
Trine defeated the Hornets 47-13 to improve to 5-2 overall and 3-0 against MIAA competition. The team will travel to face Albion College on Saturday, October 30.
