CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Trine University men's volleyball team was selected to finish third in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) in the 2022 preseason coaches poll.
Trine received 46 points in the voting, one point ahead of fourth-place Mount St. Joseph University. Fontbonne University was chosen to repeat as MCVL champions with 64 points and all eight available first-place votes. The University of Mount Union were second in the rankings with 56 points and one first-place vote.
The Thunder were fourth-place finishers in the 2021 season with an overall record of 11-6. Trine is coming off a MCVL Semifinal appearance one season ago.
The 2021 MCVL Defensive Player of the Year and team leader in digs Hunter Haas [Cincinnati, Ohio / Bishop Moeller] returns to the back row for Trine this season. Senior outside hitter Kyle Dixon [Lockport, Ill. / Lockport Township] and sophomore middle blocker Matt Stillman [Mokena, Ill. / Lincoln Way Central] are back as well in 2022 for the Thunder after recording over 100 kills last year. Stillman tallied a team-best 47 total blocks in 2021.
Men's volleyball opens up their regular season with the Crossroads Crossover event. The first match will be hosted by the Thunder against Indiana Tech University on Thursday, January 13 at 6 pm.
