Open Collegiate Synchro Wins Back-to-Back Tri-State Championship Titles

Open Collegiate Synchro Wins Back-to-Back Tri-State Championship Titles

Dearborn, Mich. - All three of the Trine University Synchronized Skating teams competed at the Tri-State Synchronized Skating Competition last weekend and Open Collegiate won a historic back-to-back Tri-State Championship title. The Collegiate team was awarded the bronze medal and Open Adult brought home the gold at their last competition of the season.

Trine began the competition with a stellar routine by the Collegiate team. Despite leaving points on the table with a few missed calls, the Collegiate team was able to put out a moving and unified performance of their Romeo and Juliet themed program and earned 87.03 points. Highlights of their routine were an exciting traveling element and fast whip intersection, both called at level four, the highest level you can receive from the technical panel. The Thunder have proven they are a force to be reckoned with heading into the National Championships.

Next up competing on behalf of the Thunder was the Open Collegiate team. After taking a fantastic second place finish at the Midwestern Sectional Championships in January, the team was looking to finish their season strong. Open Collegiate delivered, showcasing their energy-packed Brazilian Carnival themed routine with precision and power. Their passionate expression to the music combined with clean elements, especially their whip intersection, traveling circle, and wheel won them the gold medal and a back-to-back Tri-State Championship title. The team earned their first Tri-State title last season in 2023.

Trine's last performance at the Tri-State Synchronized Skating Competition was from the Open Adult team. Skating to a melody of Fleetwood Mac songs, Open Adult impressed the judges with their speed, stability, and musicality. Standout elements included an organized pivot block, smooth triangle intersection, and an energetic and fun wheel to conclude their program. The team earned their best placement of the season, winning a gold medal and their first Tri-State Championship title.

Collegiate will compete for the last time this season at the 2024 U.S. Synchronized Skating National Championships on February 24th in Las Vegas, Nev., where they will be hoping to earn their second-ever National medal. All three synchro teams will showcase their routines at the TUVST Spring Show on Saturday, April 27 at the Thunder Ice Arena.
