ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's basketball team has been placed seventh in the most recent D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. It is the fourth consecutive poll where the Thunder are in the number seven spot.
Trine picked up a neutral site victory in the Basketball Destinations Post-Christmas Classic at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee last week. The Thunder (10-2, 3-1) bested Penn State-Behrend 77-52 in game one and the second game against Williams College was cancelled due to COVID-19 protocols.
Tara Bieniewicz [Chesterfield, Mich. / Dakota], who was named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Athlete of the Week, broke Trine's career three-point record with her 155th make from distance and connected for five total three's in a team-high 20-point performance. She leads the MIAA in three shooting categories: three-point field goals made (31), three-point field goals per game (2.58) and three-point field goal percentage (40.8%).
Trine moved up two spots in this week's Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) poll to ninth with 150 votes.
Up next, the Thunder hit the road for competition against fellow MIAA opponent, Saint Mary's College. That game takes place on Saturday, January 8 at 3 pm.
