ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's basketball team picked up two spots in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll following their victory at the previous top team, Hope College. The Thunder now sit number two in the country for NCAA DIII women's basketball.
Christopher Newport University, undefeated at 16-0 this season, take the top spot in the rankings and the Flying Dutch of Hope College drop to number three. Four different teams received first place votes, including five for Trine.
Tara Bieniewicz [Chesterfield, Mich. / Dakota] was honored as Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Athlete of the Week after leading the Thunder with 18 points against both Hope College and Olivet College.
Trine has won eight in a row and defeated Kalamazoo College on Monday night by a score of 82-38. Head coach Andy Rang got big performances from Alyssa Argyle [Freeland, Mich. / Freeland] with 13 points and a career-high 12 points out of freshman Sierra Hinds [Carmel, Ind. / University].
The new number two team in the nation is scheduled to face off with Albion College next. That game is at home on Wednesday, February 2 at 7:30 pm.
