Carswell, Marcus Winters Named to D3football.com Team of the Week

ANGOLA, IND.  --  Trine University senior football players, Lamar Carswell (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales) and Marcus Winters (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic), have both been selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week for their individual performances this past Saturday.

Both players helped lead the Thunder to a 52-24 win against Alma (Mich.) College on Homecoming and remain undefeated improving to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Carswell garners "Team of the Week" honors for the second straight week after posting his third straight 200-yard rushing game this season against the Scots with 293 total yards and rushed for a career-high five touchdowns.  His five touchdowns also tied the Trine single-game record.  Carswell had TD runs of 15, 39, 43, 28, 88 yards and averaged 15.4 yards per carry.

For the season, Carswell has already eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing plateau for the third straight season and has 1,029 yards going into this weekend's matchup against Olivet (Mich.) College.  Carswell currently leads NCAA Division III in rushing TDs with 17 and is second nationally in both rushing yards (1,029) and yards per game (205.8).  He is also third in yards per carry at 8.87.  For his career, Carswell has 4,104 rushing yards and is 69 yards away from becoming the program's all-time leading rusher.

Joining Carswell on the "Team of the Week" is Marcus Winters who had a 63-yard punt return for a touchdown in Saturday's win against Alma.  He also had a punt return of 35 yards to give him a 49-yard average return on the day.  His punt return TD was his third of his career and furthers his all-time mark by two.  In addition, he also had five tackles (three solo and two assists) against Alma.

For the season, Marcus Winters is averaging 21.2 yards per return which ranks sixth highest in the nation.  He has totaled 127 yards in only six attempts.

Trine will travel to Olivet, Mich. for a MIAA matchup against Olivet College on Saturday, Oct. 13.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
