WROCLAW, Poland — Former Trine University football player Lamar Carswell recently signed to play football with the Wroclaw Panthers, an American football team based in Wroclaw, Poland.
The Panthers will play in the European League of Football (ELF) this year. The team was formed in 2013 and won the Polish American Football League's Polish Bowl in 2017.
The Toledo, Ohio, native most recently played for the Kuopio Steelers, which won the Finnish Maple League national championship last year. Carswell averaged 9.3 yards per carry on 58 carries for the Steelers during the regular season.
After a strong showing in the playoffs, he finished with a total of 799 yards and 14 touchdowns, including 215 yards and eight touchdowns as a receiver. He scored four touchdowns in the league's semifinals and gained 85 yards and scored one touchdown in the Steelers' Maple Bowl victory over the Helsinki Wolverines.
Carswell earned 2020 American Football International All-Pandemic Team honors for his efforts.
At Trine, Carswell ended his career with a combined 26 Trine career, season, single game and conference records that include being the program's all-time leader in rushing (5,364 yards), rushing TDs (74), rushing yards per game (137.5) and yards per rush (7.7). He was the 2018 MIAA Offensive Most Valuable Player and one of four finalists for the 2018 Gagliardi Trophy.
His senior season saw him rush for a school single-season record of 2,294 yards and set single-season marks in rushing TDs (32), yards per game (208.5), all-purpose yards (2,319), all-purpose yards per game (210.8), total points scored (204) and total touchdowns scored (34). His 2,294 rushing yards led all of NCAA Division III and his 208.5 yards per game average was second in the nation.
