ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's basketball team enters the postseason with a 22-3 record and are ranked ninth in the Week 11 D3hoops.com top 25 poll. The Thunder fell two spots after suffering a loss to the now #6 team in NCAA DIII, Calvin University, 73-66.
Trine and Calvin were named co-champions of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) after both teams went 12-2 in conference play. The two split their regular season matchup, with each squad winning on the road. By virtue of winning the tiebreaker, the Thunder secured the one-seed and are hosting the MIAA Tournament Semifinal and Final Rounds on Friday, February 23 and Saturday, February 24.
The top of the D3hoops.com Top 25 shifted slightly with Hampden-Sydney College back in the top spot. Randolph Macon College is second and John Carroll University, the previous number one, is now third. Trine is the third highest ranked team in Region VII behind the #3 Blue Streaks of John Carroll as well as #6 Calvin.
The Thunder await to find out who their opponent is via the First Round of the MIAA Tournament, contested on Tuesday, February 20 results. Trine will go up against the winner of the Alma College versus Adrian College game at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 23 inside the MTI Center. The Thunder defeated both teams in four total meetings, with 12-point wins in both games against the Scots and a 20-point victory at home when they played the Bulldogs and a four-point win at Little Caesars Arena.
