STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Sophomore Riley Morrison will represent the Trine University women's wrestling team at the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championship after finishing fifth as this weekend's regional competition.
Morrison competed in the 109 weight class this past weekend at the event hosted by University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. In her opening match she fell to the eventual third place finisher. To open the consolation bracket she picked up a pin in the 53rd second to advance to the consolation semifinals.
In that third match Morrison's opponent from North Central College got the best of her and she headed to the fifth-place match, with the winner heading to the national championship. Morrison made quick work of the match pinning her opponent in the 27th second.
"Riley had a strong day at the regional," said head coach Amy Hildebrandt, "I'm excited to see what Riley does in her second straight trip to the national championship. After last years' experience, I think she's is well positioned to improve on that performance."
Also competing at the regional for Trine were Michelle Sanchez and Ashton Francis.
Morrison will head to Adrian, Mich. to compete in the national championship which will once again be hosted by Adrian College. The event is set to start on Friday, March 4.
