ALBION, Mich. – Three of the four members of the Trine University women's wrestling team placed at the Albion College Invitational.
Headlining the group was Hailey Budney who not only paced the team with a third-place finish but did so in event leading style. Budney recorded all four of her wins by pin, tied for most at the event. She also secured those victories in the quickest time of all competitors. Her four wins took just a combined 2:31, two minutes less than the next best.
Riley Morrison turned in the second-best finish of the day coming in fourth at 109. After an opening round loss, she reeled off three straight pins and then a tech fall to earn a spot in the consolation bracket final. A last round loss gave her the fourth-place finish.
The final placing athlete for the Thunder was Madison Small at 136. She finished in sixth place. After an opening round win, she dropped to the consolation bracket and won her first match. Her final two contests ended up being losses giving her the sixth spot.
The Thunder will have a long break before their next meet. They will travel to Lourdes University on Tuesday, January 16.
