NEW ORLEANS, La. – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has unveiled the week seven national rankings for the 2022 cross country season. The Trine University women's cross country team has climbed the national rankings after a competitive effort in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships.
The Thunder are now 24th in the country, jumping up 11 spots from the last poll. It is the largest increase by any team in the coaches' poll from week six.
Trine finished third as a team at the MIAA Championships, and were just behind Hope College, the conference champion, and second-place Calvin University at the event. The Thunder scored 52 points, while Hope had 39 and Calvin 50, showing that the team has similar pace and the new rankings reflect that. The Flying Dutch are 19th in the latest national poll and the Knights one spot ahead of Trine in 23rd.
Sophomore Lydia Randolph and junior Carol Haldeman led the team with a third and sixth-place finish at the MIAA Championships. All five scoring members for the team had career-best times in the 6K event.
Looking ahead to the NCAA Great Lakes Regional next weekend, the Thunder got ahead of John Carroll University and Centre College in the national rankings, putting them the third-best team in the region. The Blue Streaks of John Carroll are ranked 25th nationally and the Colonels 32nd. Hope will be the host of the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Saturday, November 12, with the women's race starting at 12:15 pm.
