OLIVET, Mich. – The Trine University men's tennis team secured a spot in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament with a 9-0 victory over their hosts from Olivet College in the regular season finale.
Senior Jaxon Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) and freshman Caleb Morris (Terre Haute, Ind. / Terre Haute South Vigo) picked up the most lopsided win of the doubles portion of the day with an 8-0 showing in the No. 3 match. Freshman Cole Goodman (Eagle, Mich. / Grand Ledge) and junior Drew Dixon (Fishers, Ind. / Fishers) would take the No. 1 match 8-4 with junior Aaron Streit (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) and sophomore Ryan Smith (Peru, Ind. / Peru) taking the No. 2 match 8-3.
The Thunder would take all six singles matches in convincing fashion, but only Morris in the No. 6 match would sweep his opponent 6-0, 6-0. Goodman in the No. 1 match and Davis in the No. 3 match would both win 6-0, 6-1. Streit in the No. 2 match and Smith in the No. 5 match would also share scores winning 6-1, 6-2. Dixon would finish off the contest with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 4 match.
The team finishes the regular season 10-7 overall and 5-2 in MIAA play. They secure a spot in the MIAA Tournament locking themselves into the three-seed with today's win. They will await news on their opening round opponent with the final regular season contests being played next week. Their first round contest will be on Wednesday, May 4.
