ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's tennis team picked up their third Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) victory of the season, defeating visiting Albion College by the score of 9-0.
Nicholas Jen and Caleb Morris posted the most emphatic of the doubles victories in the contest, winning at No. 3 by the score of 8-2. The other two matches were close, but ultimately ended 8-5 in favor of the Thunder. Andrew Spirrison and Elijah Schilthuis competed as the No. 1 pair while Cole Goodman and Drew Dixon served as the No. 2 pair.
Dixon had the best win in the singles portion of the day, winning the No. 6 match in straight points, 6-0, 6-0. Sammy Yin in the No. 1 match and Goodman at No. 2 were close behind the senior both winning 6-1, 6-1. Morris needed just one more point for a 6-3, 6-0 win in the No. 5 match.
The closest matches of the day came at No. 3 and No. 4. Spirrison won his match 6-2, 6-4 while Schilthuis in the No. 4 match had hardest fight of the day, he ultimately won with scores of 4-6, 6-4, 11-9.
Trine improves to 11-3 overall and 3-0 in MIAA play. The team will take the courts once again at home when they host Adrian College on Wednesday, April 10. That dual is set to start at 4 p.m.
