HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Sammy Yin of the Trine University men's tennis team has earned his second-straight Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Athlete of the Week.
It is the second time both this season and in his career that Yin has been named Athlete of the Week.
The freshman headlined competition at the 2023 Hope College Invite where he won the Men's A-Draw Individual tournament. After receiving a bye in the first round he won his first match against Calvin's Harrison Sindelar by the score of 8-1. In the quarterfinal round he took on a second member of the Knights and won 6-2, 6-0.
In the semifinals he defeated the host school's Rylan Doden with scores of 6-4, 6-0. Then in the championship he defeated Jospeph Llopis 6-4 in the first set before the opposition retired due to injury in the second set.
The Thunder return to dual match competition on Sunday, September 24 when they host the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
