ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University men's tennis team defeated Alma College by the score of 8-1 in their first taste of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) competition.
The Thunder started the day by sweeping the doubles portion of the contest. In the No. 1 match, sophomore Aaron Streit (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) and freshman Ryan Smith (Peru, Ind. / Peru) picked up the victory by the score of 8-2, the most definitive win of the three matches. In the No. 2 match, junior Jaxon Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) and sophomore Drew Dixon (Fishers, Ind. / Fishers) came away with a 8-7 (7-5) victory. Senior Isaac Everitt (Scottsburg, Ind. / Scottsburg) and sophomore Eric Gaby (Syracuse, Ind. / Fairfield) came away with an 8-7(7-2) win in the No. 3 match.
The team then went on to take five of six singles matches to finish with the 8-1 victory. Everitt secured the undefeated day with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 1 match. Streit did the same in the No. 2 match but needed a tiebreaker to come up with the win with scores of 5-7, 6-1, 10-8. Davis took the No. 3 match with scores of 6-0, 6-3, while his partner Dixon took the No. 5 match 6-3, 6-3. Sophomore Alex Mullet (Westfield, Ind. / Westfield) finished off the day with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 6 match.
The Thunder improve to 9-3 overall and 1-0 in MIAA play following the win. They will face off with Adrian College in their next match which is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6.
