GRANGER, Ind. -- It came down to the final singles match, but the Trine University men's tennis team came up with the 4-3 victory over their hosts from Bethel (Ind.) University. The contest was played under NAIA scoring rules.
The Thunder dropped the doubles portion of the contest, coming up with only one match victory to fall behind in the dual 1-0. Senior Isaac Everitt (Scottsburg, Ind. / Scottsburg) and sophomore Alex Mullet (Westfield, Ind. / Westfield) won their No. 3 match with the score of 7-6(7-4).
Trine then came back in the singles portion of the contest, tying the dual at 3-3 with only the No. 6 match remaining. Sophomore Aaron Streit (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) took the No. 2 match with scores of 0-6, 6-4, 10-7, while classmate Mitch Rose (Plymouth, Ind. / Plymouth) also came up with a tight win in the No. 3 match with scores of 7-5, 4-6, 10-4. Sophomore Drew Dixon (Fishers, Ind. / Fishers) came up with the most convincing win for the Thunder in the No. 5 match 6-3, 6-3.
Mullet then fell behind early in the final match of the day before forcing a super-tiebreaker and coming up with the win to give the team the dual win. He won the No. 6 match with scores of 3-6, 6-2, 10-3.
The victory marks the end of the team's fall season. They finish off with a 4-3 record.
